Dean’s Editorial, June 2014

GIDDear alumni,

We all remember how quickly our INSEAD year flew by. However, I must tell you that my first nine months as Dean have been equally swift!

Since my last message in the April edition of the magazine, we’ve had the Private Equity Conference, Alumni Volunteers meeting and Class Reunions in May, a Global Business Leaders Conference and the Alumni Forum in Portugal.   In all of these, I was privileged to see the INSEAD spirit brought to life in exciting content and breakout sessions.

This weekend we celebrate reunions for the classes of 35, 40, 45 and 50 years after graduation. Also, in July we will celebrate a milestone in reunions: the 10th EMBA reunion.  Through the vision and hard work of staff and faculty, the programme has grown fourfold since we started in 2003 and is now one of the leading programs in the world. We remember with most grateful appreciation the late Professor Dominique Héau whose vision shaped the EMBA programme.  You will be able to read more in this edition of the magazine.

Also in this edition, we  take a look at Entrepreneurship at INSEAD and delve into Bootcamps and the INSEAD Venture Competition and the impact that these have made on the lives of our alumni.  We also talk to Hubert Sagnières MBA’86J, CEO of Essilor International who made the FT list of CEOs of the world’s largest 500 listed companies.

As ever, alumni engagement at the school is astounding and truly gives INSEAD the distinctive edge we have over all other schools. There is no role more significant than that of the IAA President who together with his team works closely with the school.  The time has come to nominate a new President and I invite those of you who are interested to read the article and put yourself forward for nomination.  As we reach this juncture, I would like to thank Sven for all that he has done for the school and for the Alumni community.

We have decided that the best way forward in choosing the name of the magazine is to ask you, our alumni, to vote!  Please take a few moments and fill in this survey. Finally, remember to mark your calendar and join the INSEAD family as we celebrate Global INSEAD Day on 12 September!

I wish you all a great summer and look forward to meeting you at an alumni event soon.

Best regards

Ilian Mihov
Dean
